Welcome, AI Strategists

💫 Current thoughts: In June, a reviewer sent back the first page my content engine ever produced with two-thirds of it rewritten. Instead of promising it would get better, I registered a prediction that could fail in public, and then measured every review for a month.

What's in the post:

  • The two numbers that expose whether an AI content operation compounds, and why either one alone is gameable

  • What happened when copy that passed our audit on July 8 got re-checked on July 11

  • The second-page test: the exact questions to put to any vendor, agency, or consultant selling you a flywheel (including me)

If you're paying anyone for AI content right now, the test takes one email to run. The questions are in the post, verbatim.

P.S. Anthropic started watermarking Claude's text this week: invisible, machine-readable, required by the EU AI Act. Two notes. They trained on basically all human content of our unlabeled words, and now theirs come labeled, so the labels only point one way. And the mark detects the model, not the judgment around it. This paragraph carries the mark. It can't tell you who checked the claims. That layer is what today's post is about.

This Week's Breakdown
